The Magic Curtain is a valuable work of popular culture. The part about the corridos is the most fascinating and comprehensive: Torrans takes the reader from well-known border raiders to labor agitation and pride in the migrants crossing to the hellish isolation of todays illegal migrant farmworkers. And in his translations Torrans manages to give the lyrics the same rhyme schemes!
